What happened
A plane carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was nearly struck by a drone during takeoff from Moldova. The incident occurred as Zelenskyy was traveling to Norway for a state funeral.
According to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, the drone came close to hitting Zelenskyy's plane as it prepared to take off. The incident led to the closure of Chișinău airspace.
Moldovan authorities reported that two Russian drones were involved in the incident. One drone landed in a field, causing a fire, while the other entered Romanian airspace. The incident forced the temporary suspension of arrivals and departures at Chișinău International Airport.
Zelenskyy's departure was delayed, but his plane was eventually cleared for takeoff. He arrived safely in Oslo, where he met with Norwegian officials to discuss military aid and air defense support.
