House Democrats have introduced a new bill aimed at imposing economic sanctions on Israel over its presence in the biblical areas of Judea and Samaria. The proposed bill, known as the Stop the Settlements Act, would freeze assets, revoke visas, and impose a total US import ban on goods produced in the area.
The bill is led by Reps. Joaquin Castro and Sara Jacobs, along with dozens of co-sponsors, and targets critical strategic zones like E1, located just east of Jerusalem. This move has been criticized for ignoring the thousands of years of Jewish heritage rooted in the land and the military reality that Judea and Samaria provide to keep millions of Israelis safe.
Judea and Samaria are considered the historic cradle of Jewish civilization, with cities like Hebron, Shiloh, and Bethlehem carrying tremendous archaeological and spiritual weight. The region is also seen as a strategic necessity for Israel's national survival, providing vital strategic depth and an early-warning advantage against potential threats.
