What happened

Talks between the US and Iran are reportedly ongoing, with President Trump stating that he expects more discussions to take place this week. The president rejected an Iranian proposal over the weekend, saying it was not the deal he wanted to make. Trump confirmed that US and Iranian representatives spoke through mediators on Monday, but no breakthroughs have been reported.

Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that economic pressure on Iran is yielding results, with the Iranian rial hitting record lows against the US dollar. The current exchange rate is 2.44 million rial to 1 US dollar.

In the UK, five men involved in a possible plot targeting a British airbase were released on bail. The airbase, RAF Fairford, hosts US bombers and supports operations against Iran, leading to speculation about potential Iranian involvement in the plot.

Oil prices have risen, with Brent crude trading at around $104.46 per barrel and the average price of regular gasoline in the US at $4.48 per gallon.
