A fundraising scheme has allegedly funneled over $1.7 million to the terrorist group Hamas, with at least $626,000 coming from US-based donors.
What happened
Saleem Alzaq, a 45-year-old Gaza man and alleged longtime Hamas member, has been charged with helping operate the fundraising campaign, which claimed to provide humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza.
Prosecutors allege that Alzaq and his co-conspirators raised funds between January 2020 and December 2025, using coded language to deliver money to Hamas. The indictment also alleges that Alzaq advised donors not to reference Hamas to prevent their accounts from being shut down.
Three alleged co-conspirators, including two brothers from Louisiana and a man from Florida, have been arrested and charged with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization and other crimes.
The US Department of Justice has vowed to continue pursuing terrorists who kill Americans and dismantling terrorist finance networks. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that anyone who finances or assists terrorist organizations responsible for the deaths of American citizens should expect to be prosecuted.
