The United States is in a global race against China to develop artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and building data centers across the country is crucial to winning this race. Data centers are necessary for AI development, and their construction requires collaboration between various companies, including investors, utilities, and hyperscalers, as well as local communities.
The AI Infrastructure Coalition has committed to five Community Principles to guide data-center development and ensure that local communities are protected and benefited. These principles include protecting ratepayers, benefiting the community, minimizing water use, hiring local workers, and earning the community's trust.
The coalition's membership includes companies from across the AI tech stack, and they have agreed to work together to build trust with communities and set a gold standard for data-center development. This approach prioritizes transparency, respect for local concerns, and investment in local priorities such as education and infrastructure.
The development of AI technology has the potential to bring significant benefits to American families, including improved healthcare, increased safety, and enhanced daily life. However, it is essential to build the necessary infrastructure in a way that earns the trust of local communities and prioritizes their needs and concerns.
