What happened
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated that there are strong indications Iran was involved in a terrorism scare at the Royal Air Force Fairford Base in England. Five British nationals, aged 23 to 25, were arrested on suspicion of a terrorist plot and later released on bail. The incident has been described as an attempted terrorist attack by a hostile foreign power by White House officials.
The suspects were released on bail with strict conditions, which has been clarified by Burnham as not being as it seems, with the suspects still under investigation. The UK counterterrorism police have stated that the suspects are subject to stringent conditions on their movement and contact with others and remain under investigation as they explore multiple lines of inquiry.
The investigation found a quantity of petrol, an accelerant, in the vans searched by the authorities, but no improvised explosives were discovered. Burnham has expressed confidence in the way British security services are handling the situation, stating that the authorities have it under strong grip and close control.
