Trump Criticizes UK for Releasing Terrorism Suspects on Bail
Washington Examiner

President Donald Trump criticized the UK for releasing five terrorism suspects on bail, stating he would not have done so and that the US knows everything about them.

President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment with the UK's decision to release five terrorism suspects on bail. The suspects were arrested near a British air base, RAF Fairfield, which is a key base for US heavy bombers.

What happened

The five men were caught by police after a local farmer reported suspicious activity, and they were initially arrested on suspicion of plotting an attack. However, they were later released on bail, which prompted Trump's criticism. Trump stated that he would not have released the suspects on bail, saying "I wouldn't have done that" and "We know everything about them. We would not have released them."

The UK's Head of Counterterrorism Policing, Laurence Taylor, announced the release of the five men on bail, but still considered the event a foiled attack and left open the possibility that they could have been proxies for a foreign government, such as Iran. British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood also addressed the incident as a foiled terrorist attack, saying it was a major victory in the struggle against terrorism.

Trump had initially praised the British police for their swift handling of the matter, but changed his tone after the suspects were released on bail. The US Air Force has stated that it remains vigilant and will take appropriate actions to ensure the safety and security of its personnel and installations.
