OpenAI Executive: Not Consulting AI for Health Advice Is 'Medical Malpractice'
Washington Examiner

OpenAI executive Felipe Millon says not consulting AI chatbots for health advice is medical malpractice. He emphasizes the importance of using AI as a tool to get an additional viewpoint for diagnoses.

What happened

An OpenAI executive, Felipe Millon, stated that it should be considered medical malpractice not to consult AI chatbots for health advice. Millon, who is the head of the Government Go to Market division of OpenAI, made this statement at the Make America Healthy Again Summit in Washington D.C.

Millon emphasized the importance of using AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT, as a tool to get an additional viewpoint for diagnoses. He shared a personal experience where his wife used ChatGPT to understand her biopsy results after being diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer.

According to Millon, the chatbot acted as a complement to healthcare from human providers, and he does not recommend relying solely on AI for life-altering decisions. A Pew Research Center poll found that roughly 34% of Americans have used AI chatbots for health-related reasons, including getting health information quickly and understanding a diagnosis.
