LNG Canada has announced plans to expand its liquefied natural gas export terminal in Kitimat, British Columbia. The Phase 2 project will increase Canada's LNG capacity and create thousands of jobs. The expansion will add two new LNG processing units and other infrastructure to the facility.
The project is expected to generate significant government revenues and create new employment opportunities. LNG Canada estimates that Phase 2 could generate over $50 billion in government revenues over the life cycle of the project.
The federal government's Major Projects Office recommended approval of the project in September 2025. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson welcomed the announcement, saying it is a vote of confidence in Canada's economy.
