Neria Leiter, the son of Israel's ambassador to the US, was severely injured in a car-ramming attack in the West Bank.

What happened

Neria Leiter, a 38-year-old reserve soldier, was injured when a terrorist drove his car into him at a checkpoint on Highway 443. The terrorist was neutralized by Israeli forces at the scene. Leiter was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where he underwent a complex brain surgery that lasted several hours.

His condition is still critical, and his life is in danger. Leiter's father, Ambassador Yair Leiter, was on his way back to Israel and would not be accompanying Prime Minister Netanyahu on his visit to the UN.

This incident occurred almost three years after Leiter's older brother, Moshe, was killed in action during the war in Gaza.

Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, have expressed their support for Leiter and his family, and wished him a speedy recovery.
