New York Post

Maastricht University in the Netherlands suspended a Palestinian student who posted a video claiming involvement in the Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack, citing concern for the safety of the student and others.

What happened

A Palestinian student at Maastricht University in the Netherlands has been suspended after posting a video claiming involvement in the October 7, 2023, terror attack. The student, who is one of over 40 Palestinians from Gaza invited to study in the Netherlands, posted a video watching Hamas propaganda on Al Jazeera, pointing at the screen and shouting, “7 October. This is me.”

The university has banned the student from entering university buildings, attending classes, or sitting for exams, citing concern for the safety of the student and others. The university spokesperson stated that this measure is not meant to punish the student, but rather to ensure safety.

A Dutch lawmaker, Diederik Boomsma, has called for the student to be deported and handed over to Israel to stand trial, questioning whether the student was properly screened before being allowed to study in the Netherlands. Boomsma accused universities of bringing “Gazan terror scum” to the country.

The incident has sparked controversy, with some expressing concerns about the presence of individuals with potential ties to terrorism on university campuses. Meanwhile, a Dutch Holocaust researcher, Amanda Kluveld, has reported facing threats and intimidation after speaking out against anti-Israel groups on campus.
