An Omani co-pilot attempted to hijack an Israel-bound flight, intending to down the plane and kill all 174 people on board, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
What happened
The co-pilot, who underwent radical Islamist indoctrination, attacked the Indian lead pilot in the cockpit on a flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, causing the aircraft to plunge almost 20,000 feet.
The attacker was subdued by passengers, who tied him up with a headphone cord, and later begged to be killed. The pilot was stabbed in the head and arm during the attack.
Netanyahu praised the passengers who intervened, saying they became superheroes and saved the pilot and the plane. The plane was safely landed after the incident.
