What happened

A Flydubai plane bound for Tel Aviv was the scene of a dramatic incident on Wednesday, as the co-pilot stabbed the pilot and attempted to crash the plane. The co-pilot, an Omani citizen, was overpowered by passengers, who were able to avert a crash. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the co-pilot had undergone Islamist radical indoctrination.

The incident occurred when the co-pilot attacked the pilot, identified as Smit Machchhar, an Indian national, causing the plane to go out of control and begin a nosedive. Despite being badly wounded, the pilot managed to unlock the cockpit door, allowing passengers to intervene and regain control of the plane.

Netanyahu praised the heroism of the passengers, particularly Yaniv Chayon, who led the charge to overpower the co-pilot. The prime minister noted that the co-pilot's actions were driven by fanaticism and hatred, and that his goal was likely to crash the plane and kill the approximately 170 people on board, including 30 children.
