What happened
An attempted hijacking occurred on a flight from Dubai to Israel, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. One of the pilots stabbed the other pilot and tried to crash the plane, but an Israeli passenger and a crew member intervened, breaking into the cockpit and neutralizing the attacker.
The incident happened on Flydubai Flight FZ1073, a Boeing 737 MAX 8, about an hour and a half into the flight. The plane transmitted distress signals and disappeared from flight-tracking applications before making an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
Netanyahu praised the Israeli passenger and crew members who stopped the attack, saying they saved many lives and prevented a huge disaster. The attacking pilot was arrested and is being questioned by Saudi authorities.
The plane landed safely, and all passengers are out of danger. Netanyahu has ordered Israel's security services to prepare for potential additional threats and is maintaining communication with relevant authorities to ensure the passengers' safe return home.
