What happened
An attempted hijacking of an Israel-bound flight occurred on September 30. The incident involved a co-pilot who allegedly stabbed the captain, causing the aircraft to rapidly descend. However, the injured captain managed to unlock the cockpit door, allowing passengers to overpower the attacker. The plane was safely landed in Saudi Arabia by a reserve crew on board.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expects investigators to soon determine if the alleged hijacker had accomplices or links to Iran. Netanyahu praised the actions of Indian pilot Capt. Smit Machchhar, who prevented a catastrophic disaster despite being stabbed and seriously injured.
The incident has raised security concerns, with Israeli authorities preparing for possible outcomes such as a crash or interception. Israel has been placed on high alert due to concerns about potential copycat attacks. Investigators are now focused on determining who may have been behind the alleged plot and whether the suspect acted alone or on behalf of a terrorist organization.
