Amazon Sees Surge in Prescription Service as Healthcare Costs Rise
The Daily Caller

Amazon's RxPass service sees growth as people turn to alternative healthcare methods due to rising insurance costs. Online pharmacies gain popularity as health insurance premiums skyrocket.

What happened

Amazon's prescription service, RxPass, has seen significant growth as people turn to alternative methods for accessing healthcare due to rising health insurance costs. The service, which offers prescription plans for $5 per month, has grown nearly threefold since its launch in 2023, with over 70% of customers filling three or more different medications.

Other online pharmacies, such as GoodRx, are also gaining popularity, offering discounts and free access to generic drugs. This shift towards online pharmacies comes as health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket costs continue to rise, with millions of Americans dropping individual plans offered under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

According to research, ACA premiums increased by over 20% in 2026, and costs are expected to rise up to 26% this year. Small businesses and healthcare workers are struggling to afford insurance costs, leading to an increase in alternative payment methods.

Experts warn that the rising costs of health insurance could put a strain on the larger healthcare system, as individuals may forego preventive care and treatment due to unaffordability.
